Description
A collaboration with the Center for Biological Diversity
This print was created in collaboration with the Center for Biological Diversity to support their work protecting the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge in South Texas.
The refuge is part of one of the most ecologically important landscapes in the region, providing habitat and wildlife corridors for species including the endangered ocelot, northern aplomado falcon, Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, eastern black rail, and piping plover. It also protects rare native plants found nowhere else, or in very few places, in the United States.
Today, this habitat is facing increasing pressure from industrial expansion associated with SpaceX’s Boca Chica operations. The Center for Biological Diversity is challenging a federal land exchange that would transfer protected refuge land to SpaceX for further expansion of its operations, arguing that the exchange would permanently reduce and fragment critical wildlife habitat.
This fight matters because these aren't simply empty stretches of land. They are nesting grounds, wetlands, beaches, wildlife corridors, and shelter for species already facing enormous pressures. Protecting these places means protecting the interconnected ecosystems that allow them to survive.
All proceeds from every print sold will directly support the Center for Biological Diversity and its efforts to defend endangered species, public lands, and wild places.
I created this piece to celebrate what is actually there; the animals, plants, waterways, and habitats that make this landscape worth protecting, and to help support the people fighting to keep it wild.
